How To Cook Pasta

Pasta is a simple starch to cook, and the process is almost always the same. To cook pasta:

  1. Bring a pot of generously salted water to a boil. The salt will help flavor the pasta while preventing sticking while it cooks.
  2. Once the water is boiling, add the pasta. Stir immediately. Continue stirring every minute or so, or until pasta is al dente (check the cooking time on your package for the exact time).
  3. Drain immediately.

To Rinse, or Not To Rise?

People are split on the rinsing factor. Is it a good idea to rinse pasta?

It definitely depends. Rinsing pasta removes the starch from the outside of it. This can cause sauces to have trouble sticking to the pasta as well.

If you’re making a cold pasta dish, rinsing the pasta in cold water will stop it from continuing to cook, and cool it down so it can be added to the cold ingredients.

It’s totally up to preference!
