Easy Greek Salad

This easy Greek salad recipe is one of my all time favorites! Crisp cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, peppers, red onions, feta cheese, and olives are tossed in a homemade Greek salad dressing. Like ramen noodle salad, this is one of the best make ahead potluck salads! 

Whenever I am in Greece, you will find me on a beach somewhere enjoying an authentic Greek salad. I seriously can’t get enough of of it! So naturally as soon as I got home from my trip, I made it my mission to create a homemade Greek salad that tastes exactly like the perfection I got to enjoy in Greece.

This is the first of many recipe posts I will be doing, so get ready to eat as well as you travel. One of the most important aspects of travel to me is food (as you’ve seen from my Bangkok street food tour and Greece food tour), and I always aim to eat as many authentic dishes as I can while I travel. 

I always bring cooking items home with me for family as souvenirs (olive oil and oregano from Greece, Thai chilies from Thailand, cumin from India etc etc etc). I love being able to use the most authentic ingredients possible when I cook!

Authentic Greek salad is so easy and tastes amazing!

The trick to making the perfect easy Greek salad is in the freshness of your vegetables. I grew tomatoes in my garden this year so I use those when I can. If you are heading to the grocery store, do your best to find the freshest possible vegetables, and go organic if you can!

I love enjoying Greek salad in the summer alongside some grilled chicken breasts or pita bread and tzatziki. I usually keep a bowl of it ready to go in my fridge incase I get snacky. Easy Greek salad is a healthy dish, so I always enjoy it guilt free (even as a Greek orzo pasta salad!)

What’s In A Greek Salad?

An authentic Greek salad is composed of the following:

  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Peppers
  • Red onions
  • Feta cheese
  • Olives
  • Greek salad dressing

These Greek salad ingredients all work together perfectly to create the freshest salad recipe ever!

How To Make Greek Salad Dressing

This homemade Greek salad dressing is super easy, and can be made in advance and kept in the fridge. Just mix it again before using as the oil can separate from the other Greek dressing ingredients!

Whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, red wine vinegar, sugar, and dill. Once mixed, add the salt and pepper to taste. I love adding a ton of pepper, but not everyone loves it as much as I do!

I am in love with this homemade Greek salad recipe! It couldn't be more delicious.

How To Make Greek Salad

Again, this easy Greek salad doesn’t take too much work! Begin with prepping your vegetables. You want them to be coarsely chopped, but try to keep them as uniform as possible. I like to half the cherry tomatoes and quarter the cucumber pieces.

The onions are raw in this recipe, so if they are too strong for your liking just soak them in water for a bit before you add them to the Greek salad!

Once all of your ingredients are in the bowl, toss them in the Greek salad dressing. Start with a little bit – you can always add more but can’t take it out! Make sure you don’t over toss the salad or the feta cheese will be too crumbly.

I like to place plastic wrap over the bowl and let the salad sit for about half an hour before serving to finish bringing all of the flavors together!

Serve the Greek salad alongside your favorite Greek main dishes, or enjoy it as a snack on its own!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes halved
  • 1/2 red onion thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 cup cucumber chopped into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup katamala olives pitted
  • 3/4 cup feta cheese crumbled

Dressing

  • 6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, red wine vinegar, sugar, oregano, and dill. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • In a large bowl, combine tomatoes, red onion, peppers, cucumbers, olives, and feta cheese. Toss with dressing.
  • Allow Greek salad to sit for 30 minutes for best flavor.
